Use the Mathway app on your PC and solve your mathematical problems and learn how to do it step by step. Download the app on your Windows and Mac PCs.
Why use the Mathway PC app?
MATHWAY for PC lets users plug in math equations and instantly see their solutions; with a paid subscription, they also get step-by-step instructions on how to arrive at that solution. Once you pick a subject, trigonometry, prealgebra, chemistry. A menu displays useful related symbols and operations (such as an integral symbol for algebra), and users can tap or select those tools to set up their equations.
After setting up a problem, users then tap “Evaluate” to see the answer. On the website, users can create a custom practice worksheet based on a particular math topic from an extensive drop-down menu and view an extensive glossary.
The basic Mathway app, which lets you solve problems using its virtual calculators, is free. If you want to see the steps that go into solving the problems, you have to pay. Upgrading to the paid version costs either a $19.99 monthly subscription or $79.99 per year. Paying removes all third-party advertising (not that there is much in the free version).
It also lets you save your problem history, and access the step-by-step solutions from anywhere. Depending on the length of time you enable step-checking, it can run into some money, but your subscription can easily be canceled. Furthermore, the paid version can act as a valuable “virtual tutor” for students, not just giving them the answers but also showing how the app arrived as them.
Even the free version is a valuable tool for students, anyone involved in math or the sciences, or indeed anyone who occasionally needs to solve math problems that go beyond the abilities of the calculator function built into your computer. In fact, if you’re just using Mathway to crunch numbers, there’s no reason to upgrade.
Help for the Teachers
You could use this tool as a reference guide for students to augment what they’re working on in class. If you have a subscription, consider plugging in problems from your lessons and saving Mathway’s step-by-step instructions to your class website for students to use and refer to for extra help and guidance. Also, consider using the worksheet feature to create practice worksheets for your class.
Select a topic and choose the number of problems you’d like to appear on the worksheet, then print the worksheet or create a PDF file to upload on your class website. Encourage students to create their own worksheets for targeted practice and to explore the glossary for extra support.
Smart, fast, and accurate: Mathway for Windows solves problems from all areas of mathematics, including algebra, calculus, trigonometry, and statistics, and can also take on chemistry, determining the behavior of gases or finding the number of molecules in a certain mass.
Neat layout: The toolbar at the top of the screen enables you to quickly select the area of mathematics you need help with; through the buttons below it you can easily define your problem.
Helpful examples: While lacking a conventional tutorial, this app features a list of all the problems it can solve (the ? Button), categorized by type. When you choose one of them from the list, you’re given an example that can help you get started.
Not good for learning unless you upgrade: The app doesn’t show you how it reached an answer but asks you to register an account, and after you do, you still can’t see the results unless you subscribe for $19,99/month or $99,99/year.
